Amoxyl (Amoxicillin) is a type of antibiotic that is prescribed for the treatment of different forms of infections in the body, such as bladder infections, ear infections, gonorrhea, pneumonia, and salmonella. It can also be combined with clarithromycin for the treatment of stomach ulcer caused by an infection called Helicobacter pylori.
Amoxyl (Amoxicillin) is indicated in the treatment of different forms of infections in the body, such as bladder infections, ear infections, gonorrhea, pneumonia, and salmonella.
Adults may take 250 mg of amoxyl every 8 hours, or 500 mg every 8 hours depending on the form and the severity of the infection. For adults who have gonorrhea, the dose is usually 3 grams taken as a single dose. Children above 3 months are usually given 25 milligrams per day. Amoxyl may be taken on an empty stomach. Patients should take Amoxyl for the entire duration prescribed by their physicians. Some symptoms may become better even before an infection is fully treated. Amoxyl is not for the treatment of viral infection like flu or common cold.
Among the most serious adverse reactions are anaphylaxis, nausea, and diarrhea. Allergic reactions and rashes are common. This drug may lead to certain adverse-effects such as: Some serious side effects may also become apparent like fever, headache, sore throat, stomach pain, lack of appetite, dark colored stool, dark urine, unexplained fatigue, agitation, and seizures. Patients may also experience infrequent urination, unexplained bleeding, chills, flu-like symptoms, body aches, yellowing of the eyes or skin, and nausea.
Patients should discuss with their physicians if they are allergic to penicillin antibiotics like Amoxil before using this medication. Other penicillin antibiotics that patients may be allergic to include oxacillin, dicloxacillin, carbenicillin, and ampicillin.
Symptoms of overdose of Amoxyl may include severe skin rashes, infrequent urinating, seizure, and mood swings. Patients should seek immediate medical help if any of these signs become apparent.
Patients must also warn their doctor about their allergy to other drugs like Ceftin, Ceclor, Duricef and Keflex. Those who are suffering from asthma, kidney disease, liver disease, and bleeding disorder may also be at risk when they take Amoxyl.
