Drug description Naproxen (Naprosyn) belongs to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or (NSAID) used to relieve pain and swelling (inflammation). It is also used to treat headaches, muscle aches, backaches, tendonitis, bursitis, dental pain, menstrual cramps, arthritis, or gout. Naproxen may be used to reduce fever, or relieve minor aches and pain due to the common cold or flu. It may be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. This medicine works by blocking the enzyme in your body that makes prostaglandins. Decreasing prostaglandins helps to reduce pain, swelling, and fever. Naproxen (Naprosyn) was approved by the FDA in December, 1991. Naprosyn is used to relieve inflammation, swelling and stiffness Naprosyn reduces inflammation caused by the body's own immune system and is an effective painkiller. Naprosyn works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase. Cyclo-oxygenase is an enzyme that is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body, some of which are known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced in response to injury or certain diseases and cause pain, swelling and inflammation. As Naprosyn stops the production of prostaglandins, it is effective at relieving pain and inflammation and fever. Naprosyn may cause drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, fluid retention, rash, ringing in the ears and shortness of breath. One should have frequent check ups with the doctor while taking Naproxen (Naprosyn). Doctors recommend taking Naproxen (Naprosyn) with food and water to avoid stomach upset. If you have liver or kidney disease, consult your doctor before taking Naproxen (Naprosyn). The usual adult dose is 250-500 mg twice daily using regular naproxen tablets.
